Any dropped from Say Farm Insurance (home) after filing requirement?

We living in NY (Long Island) and recently came home from vacation to find a badly flood, caused by a washing machine pipe which has broken from wear and tear.

There’s damage, together upstairs and down.

The washing machine is upstairs in the kitchen, and there was water in a little rooms which damaged carpeting and walls – not as well horrible.

The worst was downward where the water caused the ceilings to collapse in two rooms. Needless to say, this will wind up being a big claim. How shrinking and nervous should we be around being lowered? State Ranch is sending a second man to look at the damage, after reception the estimates from the restoration company and flooring contractor, in order to approve the work.

We’ve only had one another small claim, for a lost wedding band, 10 years ago.

We’ve three another policies, in adding to our home insurance. Thank you for some advice you can give.

I use State Farm, they will not drop you.

They may question that the house is owner occupied though, that is a lot of damage that could only (logically) happen if no one was in the house.

~~You don’t need to worrry. I had a claiim at least as bad or worse than yours and our premium never even went up. This is the huge plus as to why you stay with one insurance company and don’t jump around. We have had several smaller claims with them and still no problem.

We’ve been with them for 30+ years, and never a problem, receive great discounts, and our claimss are paid promptly and our needs always taken care of. This is why I recommend them so highly to everyone I know.

You will be fine, don’t worry a moment about it.

Our claim in 1998 was about $18,000. 00. Never affected us by an extra penny (except for the deductible of course), they were just wonderful!

Your last claim was many years ago, so I would not worry.

You will only lose the claims free discount for a few years, but that’s ok. They will not drop you.

You’ll have to ask your agent. Normally, you need two claims inside of three years, to get dropped. My personal house insurance is with State Farm, and we had three claims inside of three years, and didn’t get dropped.

It would be a blessing if State Farm dropped you. This is the same company that got hit with putative damages post-katrina for concealing expert reports that found damage was covered, and then sent in new experts that found that damage was caused by flooding and therefore not covered.

As a NY attorney that has been handling insurance claims for almost 10 years, I can say that this is the same company that operates in NY. They may cover this claim, but as a whole, this company fights legitimate claims more than any other insurance company. Less than 10% of my files are for claims against State Farm, yet they take up more than 60% of my time b/c every claim is a fight. In fact, very few no no-fault doctors will treat you if you have State Farm because every claim is a fight.

State Farm dropped me after having two claims in three years.

We had a storm in our area and had to have our roof replaced. The other was a back up of drains. I had been a state farm cusomer since the age of 16, over 32 years and this is how they treat their customers. I will never go back to them again or recommend them to anyone. Nice people they have working for them but their company is all about profits.

They want you to pay and make no claims. I was told they are cleaning house and they did.

A company not to do business with.

We were dropped by them a few years ago after one claim.

A rug, yes I said a rug, of ours scratched the paint on our landlord’s car in his carport, (or so he claimed).

We were in the middle of moving and it was stored next to the car temporarily.

Anyway, State farm said “don’t wory, we’ll take care of it” and then a couple months later they dropped us like a hot potato.

And the worst was, we couldn’t get another company to take us. Luckily a friend that works for fireman’s fund got us covered through them.

We never found out how much the settlement was for (for the paint).

It’s scary to not be able to get coverage because you’ve been dropped by another insurance carrier.

We have had AIG and now Liberty Mutual, but have not had any claims yet with either, and don’t look forward to finding out what happens next time.

I just received a notice that my State Farm policy would not be renewed because my doublewide was burglarized.

The letter stated:

“This insurance is no longer acceptable to State Farm Fire and Casualty Company.

Our records indicate the following adverse loss experience on this policy:

10-29-09 $2840.24 Theft of Building Property
